Tuesday, August 2 - Ancient Orkney

Today's features a circular trip that includes stops at some of the most ancient sites found on the mainland of Orkney. These sites, collectively known as The Heart of Neolithic Orkney were proclaimed a World Heritage Site in December of 1999

Your first stop will be Skara Brae – a cluster of eight houses making up one of Northern Europe’s best-preserved Neolithic village ancient sites that is found on the mainland of Orkney.

Just a short distance away are the Standing Stones of Stenness – the four remaining megaliths of a henge, the largest of which is 6 metres (19 ft) high. Your last stop is at Maeshowe – a unique chambered cairn and

Departing Maeshowe you will head back to Stromness

Dinner will be at the Scapa Flow restaurant in the hotel.
